Spin casting, also known as centrifugal casting, molten material (often zinc, tin, pewter or an alloy blend) is poured into a spinning silicone or rubber mold which creates centrifugal force that distributes the metal into the crevices of the old. Once the material cools, the medallic item is cleaned and prepared for finishing by buffing or grinding.
Spin casting is a popular method for making medallics for customers on a tighter budget. Even the quality is not the same as die struck or die cast medallics costs are lower because it is inexpensive to create rubber molds and the setup charges are considerably less. It also takes less time to produce medallic products this way.
