The award is elegant in its simplicity. A gleaming, polished cube of optical crystal is sandwiched between two hand-fabricated cubes of silver electroplated brass. The cube sides are cut from brass sheet stock, then formed and soldered to the exact shape of the crystal. Due to hand polishing crystal finishing techniques, each crystal piece can vary slightly in size. Great care must be taken during construction of the brass cubes to ensure they are flush to the sides of the crystal.
After construction, the cubes are electroplated with copper and nickel, polished to remove any minor defects, and a final electroplated coating of fine silver is added. The crystal cubes are then deep etched with the logo pattern and attached to the silver cubes.
